Strength of presence

In yesterday’s art class, we were invited to drop into an inner, meditative world, and respond with art materials to what arose…immediately a dark blue stone arose in the inner mind…dark and maybe faceted, it was unclear, mysterious, numinous.  The stone was within a dark being, standing waist-deep in grasses, against a field of red.  So: without questioning or defining it with “meaning” from my habitual idea library, I needed to somehow express the energy of that. I resorted to cutting out shapes from tempera-coated paper I had on hand, and making the stone in pastel [would have used paper for that but had no blue paper]…What felt essential, within me, was expressing the immediacy, the strength, of this presence.
