In a recent Level Two Markmaking class, we reached inwardly toward a strongly-held value or commitment, picking up a large bush and swathing ink across large papers to respond to what we found. At our subsequent session, we revisited this first group of marks with a gentle curiosity, and noticed certain refinements, small tangles of feeling and large, energies spinning off, tiny textures and areas of richness…we reached for fine brushes and tiny markers… layer by layer, mark after mark, we enfleshed on paper the inner image of a commitment thrumming at the core of our lives. Now, each of us in our own home looks at that image as we pass by it during the day, noticing in our peripheral vision just what else it might disclose.
